Ventus TR vs Ventus TR+ VeloCore+: What Changed in 2026

Fujikura 2026 Ventus TR Red+ VeloCore+ wood shafts

When Fujikura updated the Ventus TR with VeloCore+, a lot of golfers asked the same thing: is Ventus TR Plus a different shaft, or the same one with a new label? The short version is that it keeps the launch and spin character of the original TR and adds stability for players who load the shaft hard. The longer version is below.

We went through the product specifications for the Red+, Blue+, and Black+ so you can see what changed, what stayed the same, and who might want to try it. The original TR is still available, and we will point out where it makes more sense.

What Ventus TR Plus Adds With VeloCore+

According to the specifications, VeloCore+ is the next generation of Fujikura’s multi-material bias core. Fujikura says it stabilizes the clubhead through the swing to promote more center-face contact, tighter dispersion, and faster ball speed.

The Ventus TR Blue+ is the balanced mid-launch, low-spin profile.

It works together with Spread Tow fabric, the carbon fabric already used in the TR design. Combined, Fujikura describes added stability for players who load the shaft hard, while keeping the launch and spin character of the original Ventus TR.

In plain English, the idea is the same family of ball flights with a steadier head through the hitting zone. That is a stability story, not a launch story, which matters when you decide who should switch.

The Three TR+ Bend Profiles at a Glance

The profile names and colors carry over from the original TR. Here is how the three compare, straight from the product pages.

Profile Launch Spin Tip Mid Handle
TR Red+ Mid-high Mid-low Stiff Stiff Ultra-stiff
TR Blue+ Mid Low Ultra-stiff Stiff Stiff
TR Black+ Low Low Ultra-stiff Stiff Ultra-stiff

All raw lengths are 46 inches, and every TR+ we sell is custom built to order with your adapter, length, and grip.

Because all three profiles share the same tables, it helps to know what the numbers are telling you. Torque is listed in degrees, and in every profile it generally trends down as the weight and flex go up. In the Red+, torque runs from 3.8 degrees in the 5 R2 down to 2.5 in the 9 X. In the Blue+ it runs from 3.6 to 2.6, and in the Black+ from 3.5 to 2.5.

The specifications also list a tip flex and a butt flex for each option. Within a profile these numbers generally trend down as the shaft gets heavier and stiffer, so comparing two options in the same profile is easier than comparing across colors. Weight is the simplest lever: a 60 g class shaft and a 79 g class shaft in the same flex can feel very different, even though the letter on the label is identical.

When we help a golfer choose, we usually settle the profile first, then the weight, then the flex, and only then look at tip trimming and length. That order keeps the decision from being driven by a single number.

TR Red+: The Higher-Launching Option

The TR Red+ pairs VeloCore+ with Spread Tow fabric in the mid and handle sections. The specifications describe it as having the easy height of a Ventus Red with a more stable, connected feel, and note that it has the softest tip in the TR+ lineup.

It is the one to consider if you want more height and a little more spin without losing control. It is offered in ten options, from a 5 R2 (60 g, 3.8 degrees of torque) up to a 9 X (96 g, 2.5 degrees).

TR Blue+: The Balanced Middle

The TR Blue+ is described as the balanced, versatile middle of the family. An ultra-stiff tip is meant to keep the head square at impact, and added torsional stiffness in the mid and handle sections brings launch and spin down compared with a standard Ventus Blue.

That makes it a mid-launch, low-spin shaft for golfers who want a mid-low flight and tighter dispersion with a smooth, responsive feel. It has the widest menu of the three, with 13 options from 5 R (60 g) to 9 X (98 g), including TX options in the 6 and 7 weights. The lightweight 5 X was added after launch by popular demand.

TR Black+: The Firmest Profile

Fujikura calls the TR Black+ its stiffest Ventus profile to date, with a linear bend profile and ultra-low torque. Even so, the specifications say VeloCore+ gives it a smoother, more connected feel than you would expect from a shaft this stable.

It is a low-launch, low-spin design for fast, aggressive swings that need to keep launch and spin down but still want feedback. The eight options run from a 5 S (61 g, 3.5 degrees) to a 9 X (97 g, 2.5 degrees), and there is no regular flex.

The New 9 X for Higher-Lofted Woods

One practical addition across the family is the 9 X. Each of the three TR+ profiles now lists a 9 X option: 96 g in the Red+, 98 g in the Blue+, and 97 g in the Black+. The specifications pitch the Red+ 9 X as a strong choice for 7-woods and 9-woods, and say the Black+ 9 X brings the same control to higher-lofted fairway woods.

That is helpful if your higher-lofted fairways feel like they are playing too light or too soft next to a firm driver shaft. Fairway woods deserve their own fitting rather than a copy of your driver shaft. We would add a caution: heavier is not automatically better, so tell us what you play now before choosing a 9 X.

How TR Plus Differs From the Original TR

The original TR pages describe a mid-launch, low-spin family built around VeloCore technology and Spread Tow fabric, with Fujikura’s analytics showing heavy stress in the mid and handle sections during transition. TR+ builds on that same idea with VeloCore+.

Based on the listings, a few concrete differences stand out:

  • The 9 X appears in the TR+ listings, while the original TR Red, Blue, and Black pages top out at the 8 weight.
  • The Blue+ lists TX options and a 5 X, which the original Blue page does not.
  • The original TR Black is also described as the stiffest Ventus profile to date, and Black+ carries that description forward.

The original TR remains available, for example the Ventus TR Blue. If you already play a TR and like it, there is no rule that says you must change. Our earlier piece on Ventus TR versus the original Ventus covers that earlier jump, so we will not repeat it here.

Who Should Consider the TR+ Upgrade

Consider it if you load the shaft hard and want the TR ball flight with extra stability, if you were interested in the TR but wanted a wider spread of weights, or if you need a firm option for a higher-lofted fairway. If your current TR already delivers a ball flight you like and tight dispersion, the upgrade is not urgent.

For the underlying design thinking, Fujikura Golf publishes its own technology notes. When you are ready to narrow things down, the shaft selector is a good place to start.

Frequently Asked Questions About Ventus TR Plus

Is TR Plus the same as the original TR?

No, although it keeps the launch and spin character of the original. The change is VeloCore+, which Fujikura says adds stability, plus a few extra options such as the 9 X.

Which TR+ profile launches the highest?

The Red+ is listed as mid-high launch with mid-low spin. The Blue+ is mid launch, and the Black+ is low launch.

Does the Black+ come in regular flex?

No. The Black+ is offered in S and X flex only.

Is the original TR being replaced?

The original TR Red, Blue, and Black are still available on our site, so you can compare both before deciding.
